How day hospice can help

Local man George Gibbons was referred to Grove House by his GP. George suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which causes difficulties with breathing.

This is what George had to say about his experiences at Grove House, "My doctor told me about Grove House and I started to coming once a week on a Thursday, I don't really like driving anymore so having someone collect me and bring me home was very helpful. The nurses were very attentive, more attentive than I thought anyone could be - and not just the nurses, but the volunteers as well. I often suffer from coughing fits an there was someone always at my side."

George continues, "I live on my own, I made friends at Grove House, there was one gentleman I got on particularly well with, we'd often chat together."

As a result of receiving physiotherapy at the hospice, George explained, "I'd been wearing a back support since 1952, they helped me with special exercises at Grove House and I haven't worn it since."

"It was fantastic at Grove House, it's hard to put into words - so much more than I expected. Before I came to Grove House I couldn't care whether I lived or died, it's really given me a whole new lease of life. The attention given was second to none. My life has changed dramatically for the better, I now enjoy living."

Every week over sixty local people can benefit from attending Grove House Day Hospice and free transport is provided. Patients can be referred via their GP or other Healthcare Professionals at any stage of their illness.
